A joint weekend underground with Buzzards Scout Troop, was a great success. Caving was lead by the Bucks County Scout Caving Team, in the Mendip Hills of Somerset. Caves explored were, Goatchurch Cavern, Sidcot Swallet, and Pierre’s Pot on the Saturday. On Sunday a wet cave! – Swildon’s Hole. Thanks to team for a really exciting weekend. Hopefully one of the Scouts will write a report for you!

Caving had many different aspects to it. The darkness; if you place your hand dead in front of your face you wouldn’t be able to see it, also it was so dark that we had to use extremely strong lights. The wet cave is under a large river so in many various areas water comes gushing through small entrances so there are points were you can get a chill down the back of your neck. In some parts of the cave there are water falls that you can climb up and down on the little out stuck rocks .Further through the cave there are some massive rocks that point down so you have to climb under them so, you are crawling on your hands and knees trying to go under a large rock with very cold water up to around your lip. At various points the leaders said that we could take our helmets off and have an amazingly cold water fight. Some of the coolest things in the caves are bats, mainly hanging upside down but some times if you’re lucky you see them flying around.
Scouts is so amazing for one main reason: The thrill of going into class and (you could bet any money on this) asking “who’s been White-Water Rafting this weekend” or “who’s been caving this weekend” and no one else puts up their hand because they haven’t joined SCOUTS
