Malvern Challenge 2010

Our Scouts entered 4 teams in the annual Malvern Challenge competition. 3,500 Scouts, Guides and Leaders attended the weekend, all fed by the army – impressive!

The Saturday consisted of checkpoint hike across Cleeve Hill, near Winchcombe. Eight checkpoints had to be visited where various challenges were undertaken for points – such as abseiling, crazy t-shirt swapping game, mapping challenge, leaky water tube, gorilla quiz, rifle shooting, mini olympics, and first aid.

Saturday night was the talent show and party, and on Sunday was the Fayre – 100’s of rides and activities.

The weather was fantastic, the activities were fantastic, the food was impressive,  – the toilets were unpleasant……

 All in all another great weekend – they all want to go again next year!!

 Our best placed team was 119th out of 460 teams – not a bad result for first timers!

Congratulations James!!

Congratulations to James Ward who attained all 33 Cub badges. This includes all of the activity badges, all the Challenge badges, and the Chief Scout’s Silver Award. We are all very proud of James, as this is a massive achievement – james_ward_badges_270_203x270.jpgWell Done James!!  In fact, he is only the 4th Cub Scout ever to have done this – and the first in the County of Bedfordshire. Therefore his name goes down in Scouting history. I’m sure James will want to thank, Tracey, Robin and all the leaders for their support and hard work for helping him with this.

James has had big media coverage this week. He was front page news in the LBO – see the story here LBO, and was interviewed on the Stephen Rhodes Breakfast programme on BBC 3 Counties Radio – see here BBC 3CR. You can listen to the interview – see below.  We also hope that he will be featured in our national Scouting magazine in the next issue.

 James has now moved up into Scouts, and the Scout Leaders are off down to the Scout Shop to stock up on badges!!  Laughing

Scouts: Longridge Water Weekend & New Term

Our next camp is only a few weeks away. The Longridge longridge-sailing.jpgWater Activity weekend 11th-13th September. PC form (parental permission) has been sent out on the mailing list, which needs to be completed and returned as stated on the form. Please can you also submit any camp fee balances outstanding at the same time – most have paid the £25 deposit leaving £30 balance – some have already paid in full.  A kit list has also been circulated – please make sure you have the right kit, as the instructors may not let you participate if not dressed suitably.

New Autumn Term

Normal Scout Troop meetings will resume for the Summer Term on 16th and 17th September, Wednesday and Thursday troops respectively. There will be no meetings on the 9th and 10th as leaders will be preparing / loading equipment for Longridge Camp.

District Camp 2009

This year Scouting in Leighton Buzzard and Linslade District celebrates its 100th year and our District team are holding a camp for us at The Boyd Campsite and Activity Centre in Henlow. All sections, from all groups in the town have been invited, and 1st Linslade Scout Group will be attending. This camp will be our main summer camp this year, and will be our focus for this term.

Many activities have been planned for the weekend in zones, water / Outdoor Life / Activity / Friendship. Some of the exciting activities included are:

Dear All

Hope you all had a good Christmas break and are looking forward to a fun packed Scouting 2009.

Happy New Year!

Scout Troop meetings resume on Wednesday 14th January 7.30pm – 9.00pm. Your leaders will be meeting this week to finalise this terms programme and final preparations for the forthcoming Winter Camp at Tolmers Scout Camp Site.

We are starting a second Scout Troop on 29th January 2009. This Troop will meet weekly on a Thursday night after Beavers, 7.45pm – 9.15pm.

White Water Rafting Report

White-Water Rafting Weekend – October 2008

When I went White-Water Rafting it was shocking!

At first at the start it was slow but then it sped up as we entered the Rapids. Frothy Water shot up and got you soaked and very cold. At one point when the water was calm we were allowed to pull our leaders into the water. What a laugh that was. Also one of our leaders fell off the raft into a fast rapid and it was funny watching her red round face bob away down the river. At one point we were allowed to float down a fast flowing rapid on our backs and then we were pulled under and flung out of a dip within a matter of seconds. It was totally amazing.

Scouts is so amazing for one main reason: The thrill of going into class and (you could bet any money on this) asking “who’s been White-Water Rafting this weekend”  and no one else puts up their hand because they haven’t joined SCOUTS

Caving Weekend in Somerset (Nov 08)

A joint weekend underground with Buzzards Scout Troop, was a great success.  Caving was lead by the Bucks County Scout Caving Team, in the Mendip Hills of Somerset. Caves explored were, Goatchurch Cavern, Sidcot Swallet, and Pierre’s Pot on the Saturday. On Sunday a wet cave! – Swildon’s Hole. Thanks to team for a really exciting weekend. Hopefully one of the Scouts will write a report for you!
